I have taught in the Raleigh area for almost 14 years and 9 of them here at Harris Creek. I have loved my time here. What a great school community!
I went to Wake County middle and high schools here in Raleigh. I received my Bachelors Degree at Virginia Tech, but returned here to Raleigh. I taught for 5 years after graduating, but took a break to stay home when my daughter was born. I continued to tutor 3rd through 8th graders during the 7 years I was a stay at home Mom. When my youngest started kindergarten, I began subbing in Eastern Wake County, and luckily found this job at HCES.
I love teaching math, and seeing students discover patterns, theories and new ideas. Through my math instruction it is important to me to try to develop leadership skills within my students. I try really hard to give them a chance to lead class discussions. I strongly believe that students learn and discover more through talking with their peers. So there is a lot of interaction in my classroom. I do have a love for reading as well. I love to do hands on experiments in Science and help students discover how fun Science can be.
I am focusing on organization and helping my students become independent 21st century learners. I try my best to meet every students individual needs and help them grow from where they are.
3rd grade is a new adventure for me, but it is an exciting one that I ready for!
I am looking forward to a fun and successful year!
